Recipe: Brain Boosting Dark Chocolate Nut Mix

make once. snack all week. stay focused.

Ingredients

(makes ~6 clusters)

  • 2 cups mixed nuts (see options below)
  • 6 squares alice Brainstorm chocolate
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • Optional but recommended: flaky sea salt or truffle salt

Instructions

  1. Prep your pan — line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread your mixed nuts out in an even layer.
  2. Melt the chocolate — add the 6 Brainstorm squares and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring thoroughly between each, until fully melted and glossy. Don't rush it — slow and steady prevents burning.
  3. Drizzle over the nuts — pour or spoon the melted Brainstorm chocolate over the nuts, making sure to get good coverage across the whole layer.
  4. Add your toppings — immediately sprinkle flaky sea salt or truffle salt over the top before the chocolate begins to set. This is the moment. Don't miss it.
  5. Set in the fridge — transfer the baking sheet to the fridge and chill for 15 minutes until the chocolate is fully hardened.
  6. Break into clusters — remove from the fridge and use your hands to break the chocolate-nut sheet into roughly 6 clusters. Uneven is perfect.
  7. Store and enjoy — transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 7 days. Reach for a cluster whenever your brain needs a boost.*

Nut Options & Mix Ideas

Nut Why It Works
Almonds Mild, crunchy, pairs beautifully with dark chocolate — a classic
Cashews Buttery and creamy — adds a softer texture to the clusters
Walnuts Slightly bitter and earthy — complements the Brainstorm chocolate perfectly
Pecans Sweet and rich — makes the clusters feel more indulgent
Macadamia nuts Luxurious and buttery — great for a more elevated version
Hazelnuts Deeply nutty and almost Nutella-adjacent — highly recommended

Our favorite mix: walnuts + cashews + almonds. The combination of textures and flavors is genuinely unbeatable with dark chocolate.

Substitutes & Swaps

Ingredient Substitutes
Coconut oil Neutral vegetable oil / a small pat of butter for a richer finish
Mixed nuts Pumpkin seeds / sunflower seeds / a mix of nuts and seeds for extra crunch
Flaky sea salt Truffle salt / smoked salt / a dusting of cinnamon or cayenne for a spiced version
alice Brainstorm Any alice chocolate square works here — each brings its own functional benefit*

Tips & Upgrades ✨

  • Don't over-melt the chocolate — microwave in 30-second increments (not full minutes) and stir well between each. Dark chocolate can seize or burn quickly, and seized chocolate can't be saved. Low and slow is the move.
  • Toast your nuts first — spread the nuts on the baking sheet and toast in a 350°F oven for 8–10 minutes before adding the chocolate. Toasted nuts have a deeper, nuttier flavor that takes this from good to genuinely great.
  • Go for truffle salt — if you can get your hands on truffle salt, use it here. The earthy, umami depth against the Brainstorm dark chocolate is an unexpectedly perfect pairing.
  • Add mix-ins — dried cranberries, freeze-dried raspberries, or cacao nibs scattered over the nuts before the chocolate drizzle add color, texture, and extra flavor. Cacao nibs in particular are a very good idea.
  • Make bigger clusters — instead of breaking into 6 pieces, press the chocolate-covered nuts together into tighter mounds before chilling for more defined, bakery-style clusters.
  • Double the batch — this recipe scales effortlessly and disappears faster than you'd expect. Make double. You'll thank yourself by Wednesday.

The snack that pulls double duty.

Most snacks ask nothing of themselves. They show up, they taste okay, and they leave you reaching for something else twenty minutes later. This one is different. These Brain Boosting Dark Chocolate Nut Clusters are made with just three ingredients — mixed nuts, coconut oil, and alice Brainstorm chocolate — and they come together in under twenty minutes with almost zero effort. The result is a rich, snappy, salty-sweet cluster that tastes like something from a high-end chocolatier and functions like a legitimate focus supplement.* Make a batch on Sunday and you're set for the week.

What's actually in that chocolate.

alice Brainstorm is alice's bestselling functional mushroom chocolate, and every square is doing serious work.* Lion's mane mushroom directly stimulates nerve growth factor to support memory, cognition, and neuroplasticity* — earning its reputation as literal brain food. Cordyceps brings higher energy and increased vitality by improving blood oxygen levels.* Guarana, a caffeinated Brazilian berry, delivers a smooth, fast-acting flow of energy without the harsh spike.* And phosphatidylserine — a naturally occurring fatty acid — improves alertness, reaction time, and thinking speed throughout the day.* Six squares across six clusters means every single one carries a meaningful dose of ingredients designed to keep you sharp and focused.*

A few details that make a real difference.

Toast your nuts before you start — 8 to 10 minutes in a 350°F oven transforms them from good to genuinely exceptional, bringing out a deeper, nuttier flavor that pairs beautifully with the Brainstorm dark chocolate. When melting the chocolate, go in 30-second increments and stir between each — dark chocolate is more sensitive to heat than it looks, and burned chocolate is the only bad outcome here. And don't skip the flaky sea salt before the chocolate sets. The contrast of salt, crunch, and rich dark chocolate is what makes these completely impossible to eat just one of.

Make them, store them, reach for them all week.

One of the best things about this recipe is that it gets better as it sits — the chocolate firms up completely overnight and the flavors meld together in a way that makes day-two clusters genuinely better than day-one. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature and they'll keep for up to 7 days, though in our experience they rarely make it past Wednesday. Add dried cranberries or freeze-dried raspberries before chilling for a pop of color and tartness. Use truffle salt instead of flaky sea salt for an earthy, luxurious finish that makes these feel truly special. However you customize them, this is the snack your desk drawer has been waiting for.
